To the One Waiting to Walk Down the Aisle
I’m the girl who still believes in wedding rings and growing old with one person. I’m the girl who believes that the love God intended for us is better than any movie or TV show. And I'm the girl who believes that when we live life in God's love, He becomes the Author of our love story. Yet we live in a broken world that seems to have love mixed up in all the wrong places. We live in a world where divorce happens, even when we try our hardest to make things work. We live in a world that thinks love is a feeling over a commitment and promise. And it makes me so sad to see so many people settle in who they decide to marry. Are you afraid of being lonely? Or maybe you are afraid of never finding the one? Are you taking the easy way out, instead of waiting for the right person?
Maybe you have been hurt by love, and you feel so unworthy to ever be loved again. Maybe your marriage has ended, even when you never wanted it to be.
Let me remind you that we serve the almighty God who brings us to places we could not even imagine in our wildest dreams. He is the God who lavishes us in His grace and love that we need in order to live out this life, the way He intends for us. He is the God who will take us on the best love adventure of our lives... If we let Him.
This past weekend I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of one of my best friend’s weddings. Kelly was breathtaking as she walked down the staircase in her wedding dress, ready to go to the church.
She had prayed for this day. She had dreamed about this day.
Yet, just a short, few years ago, Kelly honestly thought she never wanted to get married. Why? Because she didn’t want to just marry anyone. She never wanted to give up her dreams or calling in the Lord for some “guy”. And she beautifully lived out what God wanted her to do, and she wasn’t going to let any guy drag her away from that.
But our God is amazing. When Michael came into Kelly’s life in a special way, they shortly discovered how amazing love can be, when we still keep God first in our lives. Michael’s mission in his life is to bind the brokenhearted. Kelly’s mission in her life is to set the captives free. We see this beautiful description in Isaiah 61:
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.
Yet, they had no idea that their two missions in life, shared a Scripture reference in the Bible.
Ah. Wow. God is amazing.
Our God is always working things out for our good. As I watched Kelly walk down the aisle to Micheal, I saw God’s love flowing through her.
She had waited.
She had waited for God’s timing and for God’s plan. Yes, like any marriage they know there are hardships and storms to overcome, but they are also ready to chase after God, together.
Of course being at a wedding makes you think about what your own wedding and marriage will be like one day.
As I can't wait for that special day, I want someone God designs for me.
Someone I can RUN WILDLY with as we chase after God together. But until then, I will wait. Cause there is purpose in being single.
There is still a love I must live out. The question I have been asking myself is: How can I love someone & how can I truly live life without first receiving and believing in Gods love?
I can't. We can't. We are meant for the GREATEST LOVE OF OUR LIVES.
1 John 4:19 says, "We love because Christ first loved us."
You see, we cannot properly love another person, whether it's romantically or with a friendship, if we don't first receive God's love and start living it out.
We cannot give what we have not yet received.
We must gaze upon Jesus.
1 John 4:9-10 says, "God showed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."
Still, God instructs us later in John that we MUST LOVE ONE ANOTHER. He actually commands us to. But how can we?
By living loved.
In HIS LOVE.
His love never fails. His perfect love casts out all doubt and fear.
Jesus is patient. Jesus is kind. Jesus does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud. Jesus is not rude, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, and He keeps no record of wrongs. Jesus always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Jesus never fails.
Rather than letting this Scripture text remind us of a love that we cannot produce perfectly, let it remind YOU TODAY that there is a love we cannot live without.
There is a love we will NEVER be able to OUTRUN.
God's love.
It’s extravagant. It’s risky. But it’s the best love you'll ever find. Be courageous and be brave to wait on God.
Be strong and humble so you can believe God has a glorious plan for your life.
I can’t wait to walk down the aisle to my husband, knowing I waited for God’s timing and sovereign hand over both of our lives. Yet, I know I must continue to run after God and His calling for me.
I will continue running, and when I see that man running beside me, that is when we will introduce ourselves.
I hope for it. I believe in it. I pray about it.
I hope you will too. I hope you'll join me in still believing in wedding rings and growing old with one person. That person God has delicately and purposely designed just for you. So you can wildly chase after God together.
But until then, know you are deeply and forever loved by God, the creator of the universe, and who holds you in the palm of His hands.
So live it out.
Run wild in His love.
